<p>Regulation (EC) 106/2008, amended by Regulation (EU) 174/2013, establishes the EU Energy Star programme for office equipment, promoting energy-efficient devices to reduce electricity consumption and associated CO₂ emissions. The scheme is voluntary for manufacturers and other stakeholders, who must meet defined efficiency criteria to use the Energy Star label. The EU sets up a monitoring and advisory board (EUESB) to oversee updates to technical standards, evaluate energy savings, and coordinate with other eco-design initiatives.</p>
<p>The 2013 amendment strengthened the link with EU climate and energy goals, aligned the programme with the Energy Efficiency Directive, and encouraged public procurement of Energy Star devices. By promoting more efficient office equipment, the regulation supports the EU’s broader objectives to cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce energy demand, and drive sustainable market practices.</p>

Regulation (EC) No 106/2008 on a Community energy-efficiency labelling programme for office equipment, amended by Regulation (EU) No 174/2013 

The present regulation establishes a Community energy-efficiency labelling programme for office equipment. It is a recast of Regulation (EC) No 2422/2001. In order to promote the energy efficiency criteria, the Commission and the other Community institutions shall specify energy-efficiency requirements not less demanding than the Common Specifications for public supply contracts having a value equal to or greater than the thresholds laid down in Article 7 of that Directive.
