This act outlines a general framework for the sustainable development of South Korea's agricultural sector. In particular, it requires national and local governments to create comprehensive sustainable development policies for the agriculture sector, establishes the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, requires the national government to create an agricultural plan every five years, requires national and local governments to undertake necessary measures for the prevention of, contingency planning for, and restoration from agricultural disasters, such as droughts, floods, wind, cold weather, and climate change, as well as to adopt measures for the operation of agricultural disaster insurance, establishes the Agricultural Policy Insurance and Finance Service, and requires the national government to promote research and development in the agriculture sector.
