Summary

This Strategy was first published in 2019 and then refreshed in 2024. It sets a vision for a clean, innovative, safe and competitive hydrogen industry and aims to position the country as a major player by 2030. New policies including the Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive and an expanded Hydrogen Headstart program, position Australia as one of the best places in the world to make green hydrogen.

Under the 2024 Strategy, the Australian Government is investing around $500 million to support the development of hydrogen hubs in regional Australia, where producers, users and exporters of hydrogen work side by side to share infrastructure and expertise and help the hydrogen industry springboard to scale.
