The Directive 1999/94/EC on the consumer information of fuel economy and CO2 emissions of new cars obliges dealers of new passenger cars to provide potential buyers with useful information on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This consumer information system is to be set up using the following four methods: attaching a fuel consumption and CO2 emissions label to the vehicle; producing a fuel consumption and CO2 emissions guide; displaying posters in car showrooms; and including fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data in promotional material.The Directive was amended by Directive 2003/73/EC, Regulation (EC) No. 1882/2003 and Regulation (EC) No 1137/2008.
