Summary

In 2011, through Executive Order 26 of 2011, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources established a National Greening Program to reduce poverty, promote food security, environmental stability and biodiversity conservation, and enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Program was to plant 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares from 2011 to 2016, across different types of land such as forestlands, mangroves and urban areas. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources was designated as the lead agency with other agencies assuming various responsibilities. In 2015, the coverage of said Program was expanded through Executive Order 193 of 2015 to cover all the remaining unproductive, denuded and degraded forestlands and the period of implementation was extended from 2016 to 2028.
