The law establishes the National Solid Waste Policy; amends Law No. 9,605, of February 12, 1998; and takes other measures. The law sets the reduction of waste production and of waste-related environmental and health damages as core objectives. It seeks to reduce emissions of toxic gases and methane, and to reuse solid waste for energy purposes.
Ordinance 307/2019 approves the National Zero Waste Programme. This programme notably aims to reduce the climate impact from solid waste.
