Law No. 15.103 establishes the Energy Transition Acceleration Program (Paten).
Article 2 outlines the law’s objectives, which include :
I. The promotion of the financing of sustainable development projects, especially those related to infrastructure, technological research and the development of technological innovation;
II - Bringing funding institutions closer to companies interested in developing sustainable development projects;
III - Allowing the use of credits held by private legal entities against the Union as a financing instrument;
IV - Promoting the generation and efficient use of low-carbon energy through sustainable projects aligned with Brazil's commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with special attention to the mitigation potential of using energy generation technologies from the recovery of waste; and
V - Supporting activities related to the energy transition in coal-mining regions, with a view to:
a) developing economic sectors that will replace coal mining;
b) developing activities that result in a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from coal mining.
