This law represents the regulating framework for the use of renewable energy sources (RES), including hydroelectric, biomass, biogas, solar, biodegradable, landfill, gas power plants and wind farms. It outlines methods and activities that seek to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increasing the use of RES, decrease dependence on energy imports, create new jobs in the renewable energy sector, ensure the stability of the energy market following the integration of RES, award incentives for the implementation of RES through public, transparent and competitive auctions, encourage the development of scientific research in the planning phase of RES implementation. This law prohibits the construction of hydropower plants in protected areas.
