Summary

This National Action Plan to Combat Desertification complies with the vision of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CLD).

This Action Plan is also in line with the final declaration of the "Rio+20" conference, which states that: "desertification, land degradation and drought are global challenges that continue to pose serious difficulties for the sustainable development of all countries, particularly developing ones." Also, "…we must act without delay to reverse the process of land degradation".

The preparation of this report was preceded by a critical analysis of the PAN, which was updated in 2013. This analysis highlighted key data and directions to follow to align the PAN with the 2008-2018 Ten-Year Strategy.

This "updated" and "aligned" Action Plan is the result of collective work which involved several national and international actors, including government institutions, the 5 services of autonomous entities, civil society organizations, as well as relevant technical and financial partners.
