Burkina Faso's National Energy Sector Policy 2014-2025 aims to guide energy development in line with, and in promotion of, economic growth in the long term. The policy acknowledges strong dependence on fossil fuels, and seeks to promote renewable and alternative energy sources, as well as broader energy efficiency gains, to contribute to international climate change mitigation efforts. It aims to increase the renewable share (at consumption) to 50% of the energy mix by 2025, avoiding 220,100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The policy also informs and promotes the formation of a national agency for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
