National Energy Sector Policy (POSEN) 2014-2025

<p>Burkina Faso's National Energy Sector Policy 2014-2025 aims to guide energy development in line with, and in promotion of, economic growth in the long term. The policy acknowledges strong dependence on fossil fuels, and seeks to promote renewable and alternative energy sources, as well as broader energy efficiency gains, to contribute to international climate change mitigation efforts. It aims to increase the renewable share (at consumption) to 50% of the energy mix by 2025, avoiding 220,100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The policy also informs and promotes the formation of a national agency for renewable energy and energy efficiency.</p>

Policy instruments are techniques or tools used by governing authorities to promote certain policies in order to achieve predetermined goals. Put simply, instruments are how a government tries to achieve its goals, with this taxonomy being focused on national policy instruments.

Climate change can have a range of impacts on technological system. Extreme weather events can cause infrastructure failures like power outages or damage to roads and bridges, as well as the impacts from waste following natural disasters. Human activities also cause technological impacts, such as the risks posed by oil spillage and leaks.
