2023PolicyAdaptationMore details
Sectors: Water

This National Strategy for Water Management presents a vision to achieve the European objectives assumed by Romania as an EU Member State, namely "zero pollution" and energy independence by 2050, strengthening adaptive capacity and minimising vulnerability to the consequences of climate change in terms of water resource security, through a socially equitable transition, in a cost-effective manner.

  • Strategic objective 1. Integrated water resources management to ensure sustainable use of water resources
  • Strategic objective 2. Manage and protect water resources to achieve and maintain good status of surface and groundwater and prevent its deterioration
  • Strategic objective 3. Reduce water-related risks in the context of climate change (water scarcity and droughts, erosion of banks and cliffs; destructive actions of floods) on population, economic activity, environment and cultural heritage
  • Strategic objective 4. Develop the legislative, organisational and scientific framework for water management
Examples:
Resilient infrastructure, Fossil fuel divestment, Net zero growth plan, Sustainable fishing
