Regulation (EU) 2020/740 sets a new EU framework for tyre labelling, replacing Regulation (EC) 1222/2009 and integrating tyres into the broader energy-labelling system under Regulation (EU) 2017/1369. It requires tyre suppliers to provide a clear, standardised label showing fuel-efficiency (rolling resistance), wet-grip performance and external-noise level, using reliable and reproducible test methods. The Regulation also adds new features such as QR codes linking to the EU product database and the possibility to include information on snow- and ice-performance for specialist tyres. Its overall objective is to help consumers make safer and more energy-efficient choices, reduce CO₂ emissions and improve road-safety and environmental performance across the tyre market.
