Part of the EU's 'Fit for 55' package, a legislative package that aims to align the EU's climate, energy, land use, transport, and taxation policies with a GhG emissions reduction target of 55% by 2030 (compared with 1990 levels), this Regulation aims to increase the uptake of ‘sustainable aviation fuels’ (SAFs) and reduce the use of fossil jet fuels. The Regulation imposes an obligation on suppliers to steadily increase the share of SAFs in fuel supplied to airports, to reach 2% in 2025, 6% in 2030, and 70% in 2050. From 203, 1.2% of fuels must also be synthetic fuels, increasing to 35% in 2050.
