The objective of SCM is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment through the application of 'Smart' solutions. The strategy is to focus on retrofitting, redevelopment, and "greenfield" city extension. 100 cities across the country are part of the programme.
The key features of the SCM are a promotion of mixed land use in area-based developments, improve housing and inclusiveness, creating walkable localities, preserving and developing open spaces, making governance citizen-friendly and cost effective, giving an identity to the city, and applying Smart Solutions to infrastructure and services in area-based development in order to make them better.
