<p>The Long-Term Climate Plan, prepared under the Climate Act, assesses how possible societal and technological developments could affect Finland’s future greenhouse-gas emissions and carbon sinks and provides a basis for long-term climate and energy policy. It presents 30-year scenarios covering the effort-sharing, emissions-trading and land-use sectors, as well as sector-specific pathways for reducing emissions and increasing removals. The scenarios indicate that Finland could achieve carbon neutrality after 2040 and carbon negativity by mid-century, provided that all major sectors—including industry, energy, transport, agriculture and land use—contribute to the transition. However, developments in forest use and carbon sinks remain highly uncertain. The plan does not itself introduce new policy measures or select a preferred scenario; more detailed policy measures are set out through the National Energy and Climate Strategy, Medium-Term Climate Plan and Climate Plan for the Land Use Sector.</p>
