Summary


This Regulation contains provisions on maintaining an inventory of peatland ecosystems; determining the functions of peatland ecosystems; and preparing and adopting a Peatland Ecosystem Protection and Management Plan. The Plan shall include a plan for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. The preservation of the functions of peatland ecosystems is a means of mitigating the impacts of climate change, while the management of peatlands must take into account the effects of climate change on peatlands. Peatlands are a carbon sink and also serve other diverse functions in Indonesia, as a natural resource in the form of genetic resources and timber, ajnd a habitat for fish.


This Regulation also contains provisions on ecosystem damage, where the person responsible for such damage is required to carry out restoration.


Amendments were made through Regulation No. 57 or 2016 to enhance provisions on conservation and coordination between different governmental authorities.
