Food and Nutritional Security (FNS) entails a set of actions in the areas of production, supply, and consumption of healthy foods, which need to be scaled up in light of the intensifying negative impacts of climate change. Considering this challenge, the sectoral plan aims to:
1. Strengthen the social safety net in urban and rural communities that are most vulnerable to the negative impacts of extreme weather, thereby increasing the resilience of vulnerable families.
2. Expand the availability of and access to healthy food in areas most exposed to climate change.
3. Strengthen the network of public and social infrastructure for food and nutritional security in areas most exposed to extreme weather events.
4. Promote access to water for human and animal consumption and for food production for the most vulnerable populations located in areas most exposed to the effects of climate change.
5. Support the development of Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems through the promotion and dissemination of technical and scientific knowledge and its adoption by sectors most vulnerable to climate change.
The achievement of these objectives aligns with the guiding principles of the Climate Adaptation Plan, particularly sustainable development in its multiple dimensions, the reduction of inequalities, the strengthening of institutional capacities, and the unequivocal priority given to women, Black people, and other socially vulnerable groups, thereby reinforcing the principles of climate justice and environmental racism.
