Brazil’s Thematic Plan for IndigenousTraditional Peoples and Communities aims to support the presence of Traditional Peoples in their traditional territories is an essential condition, both for the preservation of their ways of life and to prevent changes in land use from further exacerbating the situation of climate change that is already underway. Grounded on ther right to live in peace, safety, and good health, and to enjoy the integrity of the ecosystems they inhabit, with a good quality of life and economic prosperity, the plan seeks to ensure:
1. The conditions for Traditional Peoples and Communities to remain in their traditionally occupied territories, safeguarding the means of sustaining their ways of life, with special attention to gender diversity;
2. Access to preventive and emergency healthcare for Traditional Peoples and Communities in their territories; and
3. Economic autonomy and water and food security for Traditional Peoples and Communities in the face of the impacts of extreme weather events, with special attention to gender diversity.
