Brazil’s Sectoral Plan for Cities aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from urban areas by promoting low-carbon urban development. It seeks to integrate climate mitigation into urban planning and governance, encouraging more compact, efficient, inclusive, and sustainable cities. Through investments in low-carbon infrastructure, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, circular economy approaches, and improved waste and sanitation systems, the plan supports the decarbonization of urban environments while improving quality of life and urban resilience. Main objectives are:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from urban activities and infrastructure.
- Integrate climate mitigation into urban planning, land-use management, and city governance.
- Promote sustainable and low-carbon mobility systems, including public and active transport.
- Improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions from buildings and urban services.
